The enthusiasm to attend training sessions in all weathers is extremely high and the excitement of playing each and every game never lessens. Whatever the conditions, the game, the result, the attitude remains the same no matter what. The players know each other well, are comfortable with each other and interact with each other in a way that if you were creating a structure for any level of rugby club to develop, this group of players would have the blueprint - friendship, togetherness, fun, tenacity and a desire to show their rugby abilities which they do in abundance.
Off the pitch, roles and responsibilities are given to everyone throughout the course of the year with those who require additional support always having a buddy to shadow them and to be shoulder to shoulder with them. The team is keen to socialise together and with quizzes, visits to fun parks, pizza nights and just watching games together, whether it be on the terraces at Ulster’s Kingspan Stadium or in the clubhouse at Malone, there is always someone there to facilitate the need.
When the official rugby season ends, players are still keen to keep the Monday nights going with various forms of activity such as tag rugby in local parks, beach rugby and a cold water swim, to litter picking in the community, taking on personal challenges to raise money for charities and also having coastal walks with time to talk, share stories and advice whilst exercising, the Tornadoes are able for anything. We also encourage players and their families to share family snaps when away on holiday or at special events with extra kudos for wearing Tornadoes clothing and hence sharing the word of Mixed Ability Rugby. This is a popular addition to the club with the players taking great pride in wearing the club kit and feeling part of the team..
