Whilst striving to grow and develop the game within Belfast and Ulster, Malone Tornadoes has gained a world-wide reputation through reaching out to other clubs and establishing communication to engage in making the Mixed Ability Rugby experience even more inclusive and more than just a game.
From participating in numerous games across Ireland, coming 3rd in IMART 2022, Malone Tornadoes was then chosen to host the MARIS’ (Mixed Ability Rugby Invitational Squad) first game in Ireland in May 2023. This honor which also included one of the Tornadoes as MARIS’ Head Coach was a fantastic success demonstrating Malone’s vision for inclusion and welcoming players and officials from 7 different countries including players from Belgium, Spain and Canada. The Canadian connection was created at IMART 2022, when Malone Tornadoes played Oshawa Vikings in the semi-final and a deep bond was made between the two teams which was cemented with their desire to be part of the Malone Tornadoes v MARIS‘ experience. They more than played their part over the course of the weekend of not only top quality rugby but more importantly saw the best of craic with friendships thriving on many levels and creating memories that will be life-long.
Malone Tornadoes have also a sent a team to Belgium to participate in Hasselt RFC’s Beach Rugby Competition and built another strong link with a progressive, inclusive rugby club which shares the same values.
Always looking ahead to progressing the club, the fixture list in 2024 is a busy one with tours to Winchester RFC in January and in March, Madrid hosted by Alcobendas RFC, a club with ever-growing connections to Malone RFC, and this will be take place in conjunction with Malone RFC Touring Mini Rugby squad. The Dragons MAR toured Belfast at the beginning of March to coincide with the URC games between Ulster and The Dragons. We continue to have fixtures within Ulster and across a range of clubs both MAR and Non-MAR.
